New Experiences

I must give 100% credit to my sister who has introduced me to MANY new things about being a mommy. She has filled me in on bargains and when and where to get them. Laurie is the master at consignment sales. She knows pretty much when EVERY consignment sale is and where it is. Tatum has majorly benefitted from this knowledge because her closet was FULL before she even got here with the cutest clothes at the best prices. After going to lots of consignment sales in the past year, I thought I had seen everything as far as mothers buying TONS of clothes, to seeing people FIGHTING over outfits, etc., well that was until today...

Well, today there was a Kelly's Kids Warehouse sale here in Memphis and Laurie told me I should come. She went to one about 6 months ago and racked up some of the cutest clothes, so I told her I was in! The doors opened for the sale today at 9am so we planned to meet at 8am. Laurie was so excited that she couldn't sleep so she ended up getting there and 7:15am and good thing she did! When I got there at 7:45am, the line was SOO long! When I got there, I found out that people actually spent the night out there!! I mean the clothes are cute and a great deal, but MY GOODNESS, spending the night?!?! Anyway, the countdown was on and we only had about 15 minutes left until doors opened, so Laurie and I came up with a plan. It was...she was going to go in and go to Mckalya's size and I was to look for Mya Elizabeth(Laurie's baby that is coming next week) and Tatum Alivia. Anything I got for Tatum Alivia, I was to get 2 of so Mya Elizabeth could have one too! So, plan, CHECK! Then about 1o minutes until doors opened, this lady came out that was in charge of the sale. I thought she would announce a countdown til doors opened, or pricing for items, or locations of where everything was, but NOPE her announcements were as follows:
1. When the doors open DON'T RUN! I have security, if you run, I will kick you out!
2. If you trample a child, I will kick you out. (I personally think bringing your children to a sale like this is a BAD IDEA!! I can't imagine trying to keep up with a 3 yr old while trying to fight with other women for clothes for the child. Just my personal opinion though. DON'T BRING YOUR LITTLE KIDS!)
3. You DON'T OWN THE RACK! (Apparently, people walk in and try to just roll the rack to check out?)

Okay, so we are down to seconds and the doors open! Laurie and I POWER WALK to our desinations. She goes one way and I another. I am just grabbing 2 of everything I see. I had bundles of clothes under both arms and both hands are full too. I am very proud of myself for how well I did. I was at the front of the pack and didn't have too much competition. NOW, where is Laurie??? That's right, we didn't think to set a place to meet back up, so here I am walking around with all of these AWESOME clothes and I can't find Laurie. It wouldn't have been so bad, but the clothes were very heavy AND I felt like people were giving me the nastiest looks I guess because they were at the back of the line and didn't have as much selection. Finally, Laurie finds me and we proceed to the middle of the floor to go thru what we got and decide what we want to keep. While we are doing this, people are stalking us asking to go thru what we plan on putting back. We got thru doing that and went to put the clothes back on the racks and it was like vultures watching the mommies trying to get to the put backs! Anyway, we checked out and got out of there.

I have NEVER seen anything like this EVER! I mean the clothes are cute and they are much better prices than in their catalog or on the website, but WOW. There are some CRAZY people out there. What amazed me is that some ladies stood in line for hours to buy 1 or 2 things??? REALLY???

Kudos to my sister for getting the best stuff for Mckayla and Mya Elizabeth even when she is 4 days from giving birth!! Before we went in the building, a lady in the line even came up to Laurie to "tell her a funny story". Long story short, she told us that she and her niece were looking around talking about who they would not want to have to mess with (or fight) over clothes when the doors open. That one person was LAURIE!! She must have had her game face on with that determined look in her eyes!!

Well, anyway, here are pics of some of the cute things I got for Tatum Alivia(some things are for this summer and some are for next winter)...

I want a little credit for training the "bargain shoppers"!!! I am glad you two sisters have sooo much in common and look forward to seeing three well-dressed granddaughters. My favorite is the smocked dress.
